This is Chris's first lecture in a series on character animation using software: Maya. In this lecture Chris introduces the basics of feature film style character animation. Starting with the bouncing ball and then moving on to using a character rig, Chris gives you a guided tour of the inner workings of software: Maya, covering the interface and how to develop good workflow habits.
Learn the basics of Maya through the animator’s lens. Beginner animators can learn vital software concepts such as creating projects, understanding workspace, using autokey keyframing, hotkeys, graph editor editing, tangents, curve cycling, playblasting and scene management as it relates to the animators workflow. Animation exercises will be the classic bouncing ball and a couple of fun.
Rigging is a crucial step in character development and animation. A rig is the interface for your character, dictating how the character moves. Learn how to rig a character from scratch in Maya by following along with instructor George Maestri. George introduces the rules of rigging—good geometry, organization, and controls—and shows how to create joints, constraints, and connections. He.What Does a Character Rigger Do? Character riggers are experts at manipulating the geometry of characters in their interaction with environments. Character riggers accomplish this through a thorough understanding of physics and anatomy, operating systems such as UNIX, and software such as Autodesk Maya, Motion Builder, 3D Studio Max, and XSI.Then, paint your models to give them a distinct look. Finally, animate your game characters to bring them to life. 3D modeling Create 3D models for every character, environment, and item in your game, based on your concept art. Texture and materials Add colors, textures, and lighting to your 3D models to give them a unique look. Rigging Build a control structure for items that need movement.
